Do private high schools have less drama?
Do private school kids act differently than public school kids? What is the difference between private schools and public schools - education-wise? What are the pros & cons of attending a private schools versus attending a public school?
Public Comments
- nope, they're pretty much the same. but private schools are filled with more "rich kid" drama (kidding)
- From my experience? I stopped attending public school in the 6th grade and am now a Junior in high school in a private Christian school. My elementary school, third through sixth grades I was bullied non stop. I was raised to be friendly to everyone, I never knew such bullying existed until third through sixth grade. I was struggling through sixth grade so repeated it when I changed schools to the private school. I was bullied in sixth and seventh grade because of my weight and how shy I was. It was bad, cruel. Probably just as bad as my elementary school. When I moved in eighth grade I had some bullying until I told a teacher in the beginning of ninth grade (it;s a kinder-12th grade private school like most private schools) that they were being mean to me, and the one being mean to me didn't know that she was and she stopped. Now I'm in eleventh grade and it's all pretty good. There is some drama, but mainly it's with the seventh through ninth graders. I haven't heard any others. There was one where the seventh and eighth graders, one decided to bring vodka and shared it with people, making them all get suspended for like two weeks. Then there was one this year where a ninth grader girl was being bullied so the only way she could find a way to stop it was take all the persons locker books and spread them through the school, little did they know then that three people shared that locker. IT was chaos. That's pretty much it.
- Nope. Same amount of drama, its just oriented around money, popularity, sexual innocence and good looks. Still as sucky as public.
- Well, no not really. I mean if you live in Compton or Harlem or something of course you're going to have more drama. And if you live in some sort of NYC Prep school or something, you're going to have more drama too. It's a common misconception that all private school kids are "snobby and rich and stuck up". Some are, and that's like saying "All public school kids are gangbangers". Both aren't true. There's a small majority of each group that's that way.. Well obviously the main difference is price. You pay to go to a private school. There's just parents who want to spend more on their kid's education. It's kind of funny. I met this girl the other day and when I told her I went to a private school she's like "Wow! I'm surprised you're not all snobby and stuck up." :]
- i go to a very private school. eeverything is probably the same, we have pot heads, jocks, assholes, the sluts, the drama queens. but everything is driven by money, some of the kids should be kicked out but their parents give money to the school. oh yea alot of snobby rich kids
- I go to a private school, and they're completely different! I went to a public school for just summer school, for about a month, and it was completely different from a private school. There were security guards, the students were bad, and the teachers seemed like they didn't care. Even my friends who go the a public school now see the same issues that I saw when I was in summer school. At my school, there is drama. There hasn't been drama like fights or anything. No one would even think about doing that because they'd get suspended or expelled. I can't say my school isn't filled with rich kids, because it is. There are hundreds who aren't, though. I couldn't imagine going to a public school.
- no, my friend is going to private school and to be honest they are having more drama than at my school [public school].
- Ive been going to private school since kindergarten. Im now in tenth grade and still in private school. Education wise...it really depends. Some public schools are phenomanel, however a lot of private schools go at a much faster pace. I live in NY and go to an all girls catholic high school...my friend moved to FL last year and started public school there and she was way more advanced then many of the kids in her grade. She was able to take senior classes, and tons of electives. So I think we all learn the same thing, it really depends where you live. What school district. The pros are honestly...wearing a uniform. That sounds insane, but its great cause A) your never judged on what you wear and B) you dont have to worry about picking out clothes in the morning. I go to Catholic school so being able to pray, and have religion courses is a plus. I feel like I have values that I wouldnt have attending public school, as you really cant express your religion. Finally, the small grades and classes allow you to form bonds with people, and become more like family. The cons are A) it is ridicuously overpriced. K-8th grade for me was 3,000 a year and 9-12 is over 8,000 a year. B) sometimes the close family relationships get annoying...i can imagine its like that at public schools too though. C) people tend to be meaner. By all means Im not even close to being rich...not in the slightest. But there is most deffinintly a ton of rich children attending the schools, and they can be snobby and annoying...but you get over it. I love my school experiences and I wouldnt really want to go to a public school.
- they're exactly the same....teenagers are teenagers. if youre going to a small private school there might be marginally more drama because everyone knows each other so well so they know all their business. private schools -more support from teachers -better facilities -sometimes they are better than private schools.
- NO WAY. Since my school is smaller drama gets around fast.
- My son's private high school has a very low drama factor. He knows lots of kids in the local public schools and there is no comparison. They are total drama! My son attends a very rigorous school, as he did in K - 8, and the kids are too busy studying to get involved in drama. The headmaster at his high school says that they keep the kids busy to keep them out of trouble. It really seems to work. Also, the schools tend to be smaller, with more adults per student, less chance for things to get out of hand. There are many types of private schools, schools for kids who are very academic with curriculum a grade or two more ahead of public schools, schools for kids who are into athletics, performing arts, average students. The drama factor will be different in each school, but with more adult supervision it keeps the drama down. Although, an all girls school some of my son's friends attend has a good bit of drama, but it's not too bad.
