Drama Colleges

What Drama schools are available for students who are not good enough to attend RADA etc?

I am a student of a decent capability who is looking for drama schools to apply for. I am not 100% sure if i will make it into RADA, LAMDA, CSSD etc. So i was wondering what other options i have?

  1. Here in Tidewater, VA you can find two award-winning drama schools, and they have money for out-of-state students. Regent University in Virginia Beach mounts terrific small-cast productions and have won many local and state awards. But be aware that the school itself is aggressively Evangelical Christian in most regards--Pat Robertson founded it. The other,of all things, is Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA., another perennial award-winner. Their productions are always slick and lively, and their set and stage management coaching are terrific. As an adjunct prof. I could see them making sets beneath my window. The whole area, believe it or not, loves and nurtures drama--there are many venues and groups in the "Seven Cities" area. Write for catalogs and find out how to apply. I did grad work at Duke, and their dept. is killer, too--but so is the repertroire, and the tuition is brutal. Old Dominion U. even has its own off-campus theatre. "The Stables." I've taught writing at all these places, and loved every one of them.
